The residual oversize material from the overband magnet is passed over an eddy current separator.

The eddy current separator removes more than 90% of the non ferrous metallic fraction from the remaining residual waste. The total amount of non ferrous metals in the initial waste stream to be treated is generally accepted to be in the region of 0.5% to 2%.
This non ferrous metallic fraction is mainly aluminium in the form of drinks cans, these cans have been stripped of their labelling and any contents removed.

The non ferrous metals are conveyed to a separate baling machine and baled ready for shipment into the marketplace.
The residues remaining following eddy current separation are conveyed to the plastics recovery station.
