On releasing the pressure within the autoclave the water in the autoclave flashes off into steam, this steam is fed to a condensing vessel.
The condensing vessel cools and condenses the steam using the condensate as its cooling medium by spraying the condensate into the steam flow.

The direct use of the condensate to condense the steam requires that a level of water is maintained in the condensing vessel, this water level enables water to be drawn off and passed through an indirect air blast cooler prior to being fed back to the condensing vessel through spray nozzles.
Condensate pumped from the condensing vessel is fed to the water treatment system.
