1988 - Waste Hoists Limited

Until 1988 there were only two options for operators of wheeled bin systems - adapting existing types of bin lifts or importing purpose built units from Europe. Jonathan and Julian invested substantial funds in a new factory in Birmingham to move forward the British designed and manufactured alternative to the European automatic lifting system being used with the wheelie bin. An extensive development programme was introduced following the successful launch of their 'Continental' bin lift system. Investment in both time and money continued the development with the launch of an automatic version of the 'Continental' in early 1990. Further trials led to the introduction of a 'drop down rave' thus incorporating a unique hand loading facility. The business thrived and accounted for some sixty percent of the market before being sold as a profitable going concern in February of 1994. The product is still sold in the UK through Otto.
