The innovative business began in an 80ft by 30ft ex-Army hut, brought for £50, dismantled and re-built by Jack and his son John. Together with two employees and help in the evenings and weekends by John the business began to grow.
Having the ability to see an opportunity following the war when cars were difficult to come by the company began by building shooting brake bodies on 10 cwt Ford Thames chassis. Through particular care to customer service and the supply of quality products the following decades saw the family business grow substantially. As the volume of work increased and John became more involved with the company the business relocated to new premises just around the corner in College Road.
Wood constructed body building flowed in at an increasing rate and soon the works were bulging at the seams. |
